I have asked the target audience for my rock magazine what are there favourite rock bands and artists so that I will be able to try and use an artist that will appeal to them.
The band above is Paramore. The main singer Hayley Williams is stood slightly infront which allows us to see she is the lead, the band members are all wearing casual clothes so there is a chilled out vibe reflected in this picture, the poses are all natural stances - hands in pockets, arms at side and crossed arms this allows the band to see normal people who the fans can connect with.
This band is The Killers. This band is all male which is typical rock as it is dominated by male artists. The band members are all in smart wear- suits however seem to have casual shoes on - converse. The outfit choices show a contrast in the sides to the band they are professional yet care free, the picture allows us to see two sides of this band. The setting seems to be in a park that has trees and a pathway, I like that the band are in business wear but in a casual setting.
This is Florence Welch aka Florence and The Machine. I like this image as she has been placed in a colourful setting yet seems to be in dark colours. She looks typical rock with the black and white lace top and many necklaces and the makeup is thick eyeliner and dark lipstick thus giving off a rock image. It looks as if shes in a campavan which is a place where rock artists typically wake up in, its as if she doesn't know where she is and doesn't belong there.
This is The Rolling Stones. I like this photo as the band seem to be stood in the middle of the road where cars drive giving us a image of danger however they seem to not free the traffic as if they are saying 'I'm not bothered' this makes us feel they are a care free sort of band.
This is Jimi Hendrix. I like that the photo is in black and white. He is smoking in this photo which makes him seem a free spirit who does as he pleases, the smoke blows in his face and he doesn't seem to care. A rockstar with habits such as smoking.
This is Kings Of Leon. I love this photo as the band are all in casual wear and in a casula setting they come across as normal people which allows people to relate to them. The clothes are mostly jeans, vests and T-shirts, thus also making them seem care free and laid back people. They all seem to have long hair which is a typical rockstar look. The setting is in the woods, maybe reinforcing the idea that they are natural and don't need any gimmicks.
This is Led Zeppelin. This is old school kind of rock, this is reflected by the fashion. I like the poses of the band as they all seem to be leaning on the care, one member has his arm around the other which gives off friendly vibes. None of them are looking at the camera so they aren't directly making a connection with the audience however it looks more natural.
This is Fall Out Boy. This photo is good for its use of props - guitars and drum sticks, it seems to give off the rock image of rockstars smashing up hotel rooms with istruments as one member is holding it up as if he's going to hit something with it. They are all in casual sorts of clothes which gives a more approachable look however they have quite moody expressions on there faces so it doesn't project friendliness straight away.
