Research and Planning: CD Cover Comparison
The top CD cover is a pop cover whereas the bottom CD cover is a rock cover, you can see a distinct difference between the colours, the pop one contains a huge range of colours and is very bright to look at however the rock cover is a dark green colour, these both help to fit in with the stereotypical things associated with each genre, the pop cover is colourful which makes it seem bubbly and fun but the rock cover is dark which suits rock music more as it projects a dangerous/mysterious vibe.
The CD cover genre suits the artist and tells us what they are about, the rock cover is for a band called the Kings of Leon and they have four members in this band which is shown on the cover as they have took parts of the four members and put them together this makes them seem united as one however other they have added parts of an owl too which makes the image look strange and scary. The pop cover for Katy Perry has been focused on mise en scene, as it looks like a typical american garden with a white picket fence and colourful flowers, then the artist wearing little clothing and sprawled across the sunbed, this is an idillic image of the life people would love to have but can't. Both albums attract different sorts of audiences so I need to apply this to the production of my magazine and think about colours and mise en scene because they are both important.
