Research and Planning: Double Page Spread Progress

I have managed to make my text smaller to make it more professional looking which also meant I had to add more to the interview, I have begun to make a ad in the bottom righthand corner which they often have in magazines, I have placed it here as it is usually the last place a reader looks before turning a page which means it is the last thing you remember.

Research and Planning: Photoshoot 3

These a few of the photos that I took while we did the photoshoot in the woods, I liked the Autumn feel in these, as the trees are bare of leaves and look quite scary which is what I wanted to create- a haunting theme with rock. On some of the photos the flash on the camera made the models look very pale which I think adds a ghostly effect so I am glad that it happened.

Research and Planning: Photoshoot 2

I took these photos for my contents page, I decided to take close up/ medium close up shots as I wanted to artist to be seen on my contents page and wanted the models to be giving off certain vibes/emotions so I thought these type of shots would be best. I like the background of my photos which is lots of cut out newspapers on the wall, I did this so my models would stand out in colour from the black and white print of the newspapers to get a focused effect on the models.

Research and Planning: Front Cover Layout Inspiration

This is the type of layout I want for my Front Cover, Q magazine have many ideas that I like and will try to apply to my magazine too. This magazine sticks to the three colour rule and use red, black, white which are colours that I am using on my magazine. I like how the masthead is in a box in the lefthand corner as this is usually the first place people look and will help the audience know what magazine it is instantly. I also like that they have put the inside artists at the side of the main artist and how all text seems to frame the artists face.

Research and Planning: CD Cover Comparison

The top CD cover is a pop cover whereas the bottom CD cover is a rock cover, you can see a distinct difference between the colours, the pop one contains a huge range of colours and is very bright to look at however the rock cover is a dark green colour, these both help to fit in with the stereotypical things associated with each genre, the pop cover is colourful which makes it seem bubbly and fun but the rock cover is dark which suits rock music more as it projects a dangerous/mysterious vibe.

The CD cover genre suits the artist and tells us what they are about, the rock cover is for a band called the Kings of Leon and they have four members in this band which is shown on the cover as they have took parts of the four members and put them together this makes them seem united as one however other they have added parts of an owl too which makes the image look strange and scary. The pop cover for Katy Perry has been focused on mise en scene, as it looks like a typical american garden with a white picket fence and colourful flowers, then the artist wearing little clothing and sprawled across the sunbed, this is an idillic image of the life people would love to have but can't. Both albums attract different sorts of audiences so I need to apply this to the production of my magazine and think about colours and mise en scene because they are both important.

Research and Planning: Double Page Spread Progress

I have rotated the photo so that it doesn't look like my model is leaning on the the opposite page. I have added more text and started writing my interview onto the double page spread, I have done the text in a small font so that it looks like a professional magazine.

Research and Planning: Double Page Spread Layout Idea

I like the way this double page spread is layout so I am going to use this as a layout for mine, however I will apply a few changes to what mine will look like. I would put my full page image on the left instead of the right and put the quote at the bottom of the page. I would put my text on the right and split it in three columns like they have done above and the artists name/ introduction will be in a bigger font aboove the interview.

I have added my picture to the double page spread and have decided to play around with positioning and editing.

Research and Planning: My Music Magazine Progress up to Date

This is what I have managed to do today, I have worked on my front cover by changing things and adding text, by friday I hope to have my picture on there so I can place my text around the picture to give it a professional look. I have also begun making my double page spread, today I put guides in so that my text is straight and doesn't spill over, I have added my artists name that I have made up and introduced the interview that will be featuring on the double page spread, I have also put a picture on of the trees/sky that I took on the page that the text will be placed on and have lowered the opacity so that the text will be visable, I think this is an good effect to have and has a haunting feel to it.

Research and Planning: Makeup Test Shots

This is a test makeup shot, I have practiced applying eyeliner to the eyelid and starting to begin the smoky effect.
I didn't want to use the same makeup on each of my models so I decided to draw a heart on her lips instead of typically having her full lips in red. This makeup has been inspired by Alice in Wonderland.

This is a different shade of eyeshadow, I decided to apply black eyeliner but blend it with brown natural colours so that her lips stand out more than her eyes.
With her eyes open you can see the difference, her red lips are the main focus. Her eyes have the black eyeliner on top and underneath her eye and they join at the side to get a cat flick this is a rock look and makes the model look sharp.

Research and Planning: Plan of the Week

This week I plan to:

-Carry on producing my magazine
-Take my makeup test shot photos and upload them
-Upload some pictures from my other photoshoots

Research and Planning: My Magazine Up to Date

My front cover has been completely transformed from the first draft, I have started to use different fonts and have changed my magazine name from Rock Circuit to Rock Z as it fits better and still fits with the tagline as the Z looks like a lightning bolt.

These are a few of the photo's from my photo shoot, I have tried take a range of shots e.g long shot and medium shot. This photo shoot was for my double page spread.

Research and Planning: Editing my Photos

This was my picture before, my model was a little bit washed out and had red eyes due to the flash indoors so I  plan to edit these things to make them look more natural.

I gave my model some colour by changing saturation, lightness and hue, this seems to have tinged my model's face more red than I would of liked so I plan to carry on editing to achieve the photo I want. I have managed to get rid of her red eyes and add to her skin more colour.
On this photo I used the lasso tool to highlight the models normal hair colour and then I turned the photo black and white this makes her hair stand out however I don't plan to use this photo as it isn't what I wanted for my magazine but this has given me an idea of how to edit my photo's to make them look effective.
