Research and Planning: College Magazine Evaluation

I think I have used font size well on my front page as I have made my Masthead the largest font then followed by smaller fonts for the Bylines and story information, however I think that the font on my contents page is too big therefore it needs to be changed to a smaller font and add more pages. I understand that here should be different font sizes for certain things as the important things need to stand out and less important things can be in a smaller font as it isn't as relevant.

My magazine follows the three colour rule, I have used the colours- purple, black and yellow I came to this decision through my audience research as the most favoured colours were purple and yellow.

I think you can tell that the front cover and contents page are from the same magazine as it follows the same colour theme and font style.

The photographs that I took could of been better however I feel they were appropriate to the college magazine, I didn't stretch the photos because it would of disfigured the faces, however I think the photo on the front cover could of been bigger and more of a focus point. I was able to manipulate photographs to an appropriate size and have used both crop and resizing to do it.

I have included enough stories on the cover to grab the readers attention and want to buy the magazine, I could of included more stories on he contents page though. I have used an informal tone as I don't feel that formal language would of been very appropriate for the target audience, the language is suitable and reaches out to the the age group.

I have understood the conventions of a magazine and put in a masthead, bylines, date and issue number, price and bar code and pictures.I have used both photoshop and In Design for this task and I think i have used them both appropriately for the task of making  a college magazine.

Whats your favourite colour? Red

Whats your favourite  part of college? hometime
How much would you pay for a magazine? he wouldn't pay
What interests you outside of college? sport and gaming
Do you enjoy college? yes
would you buy the magazine? no
What would you like to feature within the magazine? relevence is key

Research and Planning: Audience Research

I went out into to college and asked students the following questions about a college magazine:

Whats your favourite colour? Purple

Whats your favourite  part of college? Canteen
How much would you pay for a magazine? £1
What interests you outside of college?Partying and football
Do you enjoy college? No
Would you buy a college magazine? Yes
What would you like to feature within the magazine?Anything and everything

I have found that my target audience includes both genders therefore i need to include things that interest them both in order for my magazine to sell e.g. male audiences like football and female audiences socialising so i must have a mix in my magazine . The colour most people said was purple showing that colour is unisex and appeals to the majority of people.

Research and Planning: Medium Close Up Examples

Research and Planning: College Magazine Analysis

I can tell this is a college magazine, by the clothes he wears, they are up to date modern clothes that a student would wear and  he is given props - the law books gives him away as a student too.The text lets us know it is a college magazine as it uses the words 'college' and 'campus'. The magazine has the normal codes and conventions of a magazine - Barcode and Price, Masthead which is bigger than the rest of the text to make it stand out and let the audience know the magazines name, Main picture, Issue and Date and Bylines such as 'Why we love Blackberry'. The magazine has an individual house style and uses the colours green which is quite a positive colour and may represent the students as they are always on the 'go', black and white and has a good layout that attracts people to the magazine.

Research and Planning: Introduction to InDesign

This is my first time on InDesign, I have learnt to - Add margin and columns so it is set out like a magazine, then copied a film review off the internet and uploaded it onto InDesign, i also added a picture, then gave it a title and changed my colour background.

Research and Planning: Skin Tutorial

Today I have learnt on photoshop to do a skin tutorial, i have learnt to use the spot healing brush tool to remove any blemishes and have duplicated the layer to give her a softer skin effect. I know how to use the soft blur to give the skin a better complexion and changed the opacity to give her a more realistic look.
I used the brush tool to add eyelashes, eyeshadow, lipstick and change the colour of her hair.
